Leya

Guides

Step-by-step instructions for the things you'll do in Leya. For the machine-facing API, see the API reference.

Import documents from Google Drive

There are two ways in, and they solve different problems. Share a folder when you want everything in it — including files added later. Pick files when you want specific documents without sharing anything.

Share a whole folder (recommended)

  1. In Google Drive, right-click the folder and choose Share. Add drive@leya.lawyer with Viewer access — the same way you would share it with a colleague.
  2. That’s it. The folder appears under Documents Import from Drive within a few minutes and its files import on their own.
  3. If it doesn’t appear — for instance when you belong to more than one workspace, so Leya cannot tell which one the folder is for — paste the folder’s link there and press Connect folder.

Everything readable in the folder — PDFs, Word files, scans, Google Docs — is imported, including subfolders. New files that land in the folder are picked up automatically. Disconnecting the folder later stops the syncing but keeps the documents already imported.

Leya can only see folders you explicitly share with that address, and its access is read-only. It cannot browse, modify or delete anything else in your Drive.

Pick individual files

  1. Go to DocumentsImport from Drive Open Google Drive.
  2. Find your documents — the picker searches your whole Drive, including shared drives — and select as many as you need.
  3. Press Select. Leya downloads and reads them; nothing else in your Drive is shared.

Import documents by email

Your workspace has its own email address. Anything you forward to it arrives as documents — useful when a contract lives in your inbox and forwarding is faster than downloading and uploading.

  1. Find your workspace address under Documents Or forward them by email. It looks like yourfirm@leya.lawyer.
  2. Forward any email with documents attached to that address.
  3. The attachments appear in your documents within a couple of minutes. The message text itself is not stored — only the attached files.

Only members of your workspace can send to this address: mail from anyone else — or mail that cannot be verified as coming from a member — is refused. Forward from the email address you signed in with.

Upload documents directly

  1. Go to Documents and drop files anywhere on the upload area — or press Choose files, or Import a folder to walk a whole folder from your computer, subfolders included.
  2. Leya accepts PDF, Word (.docx) and photographs or scans of paper (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, HEIC). Anything else in a dropped folder is skipped quietly.
  3. Each document shows its reading status. Scanned pages are transcribed automatically; a document with pages Leya could not read says so instead of looking finished.

Uploading the same file twice never duplicates it — documents are recognised by content. Deleting a document removes its record, its extracted text and the original file, permanently.

Invite your team

  1. Go to Members, enter your colleague’s email and choose a role: Member can research and use documents; Admin can also invite and remove people.
  2. They receive an invitation from hello@leya.lawyer with a link to join your workspace.
  3. If it does not arrive within a few minutes, check spam — and use Resend next to the pending invitation. Resending issues a fresh link; the old one stops working.

Ask a research question

  1. Go to Research and ask in your own words, in Spanish or English — “What is the deadline to file an amparo?” or “which of our contracts renew automatically?”.
  2. Leya searches the law — statutes, decrees, bills, case law — and your firm’s own documents, and you watch what it searched as it works.
  3. The answer is a draft with citations beside it. Every quote is mechanically checked against the cited document’s actual text; a quote that cannot be verified is removed rather than shown.
  4. Comment on the draft to push back or redirect — each revision answers your comments and keeps the history.

Citations are marked by what Leya can verify: a bill before Congress is labelled as a proposal, not law in force, and a document whose text Leya does not hold is named but never quoted.

Schedule recurring research

  1. Open a research task and choose Schedule — daily, weekly, or any cron expression.
  2. Each run re-asks the question against the current corpus and your current documents, so “did anything change this week?” means this week.
  3. Add recipients to get each run’s result by email, or connect a Slack webhook.
